Located in the Keppel Bay Islands and surrounded by the Southern Great Barrier Reef Marine Park off the Central Queensland coast, Great Keppel Island is a short 30-minute Ferry ride from Yeppoon or a 20-minute flight from Rockhampton Airport. Keppel is fringed by 17 pristine white sand beaches, fringing reefs, and clear waters. Swim and relax at a secluded beach, or explore the island’s untouched natural beauty via the various bush walking tracks. Keppel offers a unique sense of remoteness even though it lies so close to the mainland of Australia, you will sometimes feel that you have the whole island to yourself.

On Great Keppel Island you will never get bored, with plenty of great spots and activities for all to enjoy. It is also a great place to just be and take each day as it comes. Some of the activities and things to do on the island include:
Snorkelling
Great Keppel Island is situated in the Southern Great Barrier Reef and is surrounded by many fringing reefs with abundant fish and marine life, making for spectacular snorkelling. You can hire snorkelling gear from Keppel Dive or Watersports and snorkel straight off the beach with Shelving or Monkey Beach being the most convenient and popular location. Do not be surprised if you see turtle or nemo! Glass bottom boat tours and Cruise packages (including Boomnetting and Snorkelling) are also available with Freedom Fast Cats.
Bush Walking
From a gentle sunset stroll on Fishermans Beach to an all day hike out to the light house, Great Keppel Island has an extensive variety of beach & bush walks. Pick up one of Visit Capricorn Island maps and head off for a beach picnic or snorkelling excursion.

There are 17 pristine white sand beaches together with fringing reefs, walking tracks & vantage points waiting for you to explore.
Watersports
Keppel Dive
Keppel Dive also offer scuba diving and snorkel tours as well as kayak and paddle board hire. Fancy spending the day on the other side of the island or visit one of the neighbouring islands? Beach drop offs/pick-ups are available with Keppel Dive. It is recommended to book any tours with them prior to your stay.

Sunset
Without a doubt Keppel puts on the best display when it comes to sunset. Enjoy a cheese platter with loved ones from the comfort of the BBQ area at the Lodge or venture down to Fishermans or Putney Beach. Sometimes the best part of the show is the afterglow, so make sure you kick up your heels and stay around to see those sunset hues become more vibrant.
Beach Fishing
Great beach fishing is available on Fishermans, Putney and Leekes Beaches with seasonal runs of Whiting, Trevally and Flathead. Putney Point can offer larger pelagic species. Great Keppel Island has several green zones, so be sure to check the latest Marine Park zoning online. If you do not have your own gear, you can hire from Keppel Dive.
Kahuna Massage & Yoga
Kahuna massage is an ancient Hawaiian teaching of deep tissue massage, without the discomfort, leaving you feeling light on your feet. Experience this beautiful massage with Emma seaside in her massage hut, surrounded by the natural sounds of the ocean and native birds. Yoga classes are held next to the massage hut on Putney Beach at 6am Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Funtastic Cruises
Want to spend the day exploring the Keppel Islands by catamaran? Enjoy a day cruise with Funtastic and experience the beauty of the Keppels from a different perspective. Funtastic is a 17 metre (60 foot) sailing catamaran in 2C extended survey capable of carrying 12 passengers in total comfort. The vessel has huge deck spaces for relaxing and enjoying the easy sailing conditions of the Keppel Islands.

Bars & Eateries
The Hideaway Bar & Bistro is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as selling snacks and ice creams. Happy hour is from 4pm – 5pm and the pina colada is a crowd favourite…. thank us later. Tropical Vibes Café is open for late breakfast and lunch serving burgers, wraps and toasties as well as selling drinks, snacks, ice cream, souvenirs, and clothing. Island Pizza is a gourmet pizzeria and is usually open every Saturday night – if you are interested in Island Pizza during your stay, please let us know and we can organise a booking.
